It Happened!

I did it!
I managed a twelve hour live streaming marathon! Of course, there was a massive SNAFU midway through and YouTube popped me with a first-time copyright strike [for using public domain content].

[TL/DR version - it happened, but not without headaches]

I had planned to begin at 11:00 am, but since I inexplicably awoke that morning at 5:15 am, I started it at 7:00 am. Thereby making it twelve hours to then play our regular program at 7:00 pm.

About five hours in, however, the audio of the content was not in sync with the video. It was off between six to ten seconds. With a mad scramble to determine the problem, I discovered the hard drive was not keeping up.

The tragic thing is that I have three spare, brand new, still in the packages, solid state drives that I could have installed beforehand that would have handled the task perfectly.

I tried to transfer the files to another, faster, hard drive. Doing so, the ENTIRE stream suffered. I had to cancel the move.

I announced that I would stop the stream, reboot everything and be back within fifteen minutes.

I had intended to quickly restart both computers then transfer the files before restarting the stream.

One computer restarts in fourteen seconds. The main streaming computer takes a LOT longer. That was the one I was to focus on. The only option given with the power options was to restart and install updates. Thank you Microsoft.

Fine. I could still do it. Restart.
"Could not install the updates - restarting" it said. Thanks again, Microsoft.
Shut down.
Restart.
"Could not install the updates - restarting"
It cycled two more times.

While I was trying to set up a slopped together stream from the other system the main computer had finally rebooted. I quickly set it to go. I skipped the transfer of files. And went live.

Here's the part I'm proud of-
While still live, albeit with several ums, ahs, and a bit dead air, I redid the entire stream setup on the fly. I hadn't any time to automate anything of course. Everything had to be switched manually.

The only major errors thereafter was whenever I switched back to my camera between episodes, I had forgotten to turn my audio back on. Thankfully, one of our more devoted followers would let me know in chat. Thank you again, sin_minister! To make him more of a hero, he watches on XBox and types his chat with a controller!

After that [four times I briefly had no audio] everything else ran smoothly.

Plans are already underway for the "2022 T-Day Marathong". I'll be installing the SSD drive this Sunday.

I did it!
